Eliana Benador & Richard Spencer: Islamophobia’s Own Pinky & the Brain

Huma Abedin is in her mid thirties, and according to newspaper reports she is expecting the couple’s first child. She is an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and she is a practicing Muslim. And, yeah, she’s also married to Anthony Weiner.

On June 12 Eliana Benador wrote an article for the Washington Times website that is no longer available there, but you can see it here, thanks to Twitpic. That piece was followed by an article on the FrontPage Magazine website on June 17, available here. Renowned Islamophobe Robert Spencer was then interviewed by FrontPage on the June 21, available here.

What these three articles have in common is their claims that Abedin is so obviously an agent in an acting front for a subversive Islamic plot to seize control of the US government.

Benador and Spencer share the notion that for Weiner, who is Jewish, to have been able to marry Abedin he would have needed to convert to Islam.

Spencer claims that “Either Weiner converted to Islam to marry Abedin, and a Muslim was officiating at the ceremony along with Clinton, or the marriage is a sham and Abedin, at very least, is fully aware of that — and probably the others are also. I don’t see any other possibilities.”

On the subject of a New York Imam offering advice to Abedin about her current troubles, Benador and Spencer insist that the interaction with the Imam proves Weiner has converted.

Bill Clinton was the officiator at the Weiner-Abedin wedding, and of course Spencer also uses this fact to cast doubt on the validity of their marriage. He claims that without a Muslim officiator any marriage is void. He says that Abedin, whose father was an Imam, would know this, which is just further evidence of fraud.

Spencer also said that if this marriage had been held in Saudi Arabia, Abedin would’ve been murdered, and the apparent lack of anger in the Muslim world about the marriage of a high profile American Muslim to a Jew injects credibility deep to his theory of fraud.

So for Spencer this is all apparently a deception that the entire Muslim world is in on—all 1.5 billion. The fact that not one of them has given the game away is, quite frankly, impressive. But, of course, not as impressive as Spencer’s uncovering of this torrid farce—it’s like Danielle Steele meets The Da Vinci Code.

The problem is that the Islamic community didn’t react violently; it reacted in the exact same way as the Jewish community did, which is to say it didn’t. That deprived Spencer of an opportunity to attack Islam. So now he is using this lack of a reaction to concoct a scheme of epic proportions, one designed to deceive the entire world so Sharia Law can ascend to world domination.

Such accusations hilariously wouldn’t be out of place in a James Bond film, or perhaps more appropriately in a Pinky and the Brain cartoon: “What are we going to do tonight, Huma?” “The same thing we do every night, Anthony—TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!”
