There Goes the Neighborhood: October 13, 2017

Imagine2050 Staff • Oct 13, 2017

There Goes the Neighborhood is a weekly series from Imagine 2050 staff highlighting upcoming nativist events.

This week, events in Washington, D.C. and Nevada.

Beginning today through Sunday, October 15, is the virulently bigoted Family Research Council’s annual Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C. A slew prominent anti-Muslim activists are slated to speak at the conference. As is President Trump. Other speakers include Brigitte Gabriel, founder of anti-Muslim grassroots group ACT for America; Frank Gaffney of the anti-Muslim conspiracy-spewing Center for Security Policy; and former Trump advisors Steve Bannon and Sebastian Gorka.

And beginning on Tuesday, October 17, anti-Muslim activists will speak at an “international terrorism seminar” in Las Vegas, Nevada. The seminar, sponsored by the Center for Strategic Analysis and Praetorian Group, will feature presentations by anti-Muslim demagogues including Pamela Geller and John Gaundolo. Recently, Guandolo’s anti-Muslim zeal has led to him claiming, without evidence, that the October 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas was orchestrated by members of the Islamic State. That same bigotry in part inspired Guandolo to assault a sheriff while attending a law enforcement conference earlier this year in Nevada.

Additional information on these events and others can be found in the map below. A red star indicates events scheduled for next week.
