Throughout our ten-plus years of tracking
and fighting hate across music subcultures, the Turn It Down Campaign has also
made it our business to recognize and support bands and labels who take strong
stands against bigotry. As necessary as
it is to track those who would hijack our scenes to promote hate, it is equally
crucial to work with antiracist efforts.
We have published extensive resources, assembled rosters of bands and
other elements of the music industry who support our efforts, and worked closely
with touring bands to share information and ideas. |

By Devin Burghart and Justin Massa in Chicago Searchlight, July 2001
As the six-year anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing passed on 19 April 2001, public attention focused on the decline in the mass-based militia movement and the circus-like atmosphere surrounding the impending execution of Tim McVeigh. While the militia movement has declined as a mass phenomenon in the American heartland, terror from small groups of racist revolutionaries continues unabated. |

Almost a year after going underground to elude authorities, one of the leading figures in the international national socialist black metal music scene was arrested in the United States. At the behest of the German government, agents from the U.S. Marshal's Service tracked Hendrick Möbus (aka Jarl Flagg Nidhoegg), a murderer wanted in Germany, for nearly two months across the United States. On 29 August, they followed Möbus as he left the compound of the National Alliance. Agents nabbed the fugitive outside a family restaurant in Lewisburg, West Virginia. |

Searchlight, October 2002 by: Searchlight staff
In the very week that the world stood still to remember the deaths of thousands of civilians in the extremist bombings of a year ago, dozens of hard-core nazis were stepping off planes and boats to attend the ninth Ian Stuart Donaldson memorial gig planned for Morecambe on the northeast coast, Gerry Gable reports. Donaldson, the singer for the nazi band Skrewdriver [sic], died in a road accident in Derbyshire in 1993. The annual gig is regularly the largest nazi event of the year. Planning for this year's event had started many months ago and the organisers were expecting over one thousand violent followers of Blood and Honour to flock to the Carlton Inn on 14 September to listen to a line-up of seven international nazi bands. |

William Pierce, founder and leader of the neo-nazi National Alliance (NA) died on July 23, 2002. While Pierce's death leaves some doubt about the NA's future viability, the deceased leader seems to have made careful preparations to ensure the organisation's long-term survival. In this article, extracted from the Center for New Community's new report Beyond a Dead Man's Deeds: The National Alliance and William Pierce, Devin Burghart and Justin Massa look at the life of one of the world's most significant postwar white supremacists. |

THE Anti Nazi League's Love Music Hate Racism carnival at the beginning of September was a huge success, attracting some 30,000 people to Platt Fields Park, Manchester. Ms Dynamite, Doves, Billy Bragg, The Shining and Heartless Crew were among the stars that rocked and raved against racism. Glorious sunshine and a positive vibe contributed to a day that will be remembered for years to come as a militant celebration of multiracial unity and a decisive blow against the race hatred of the nazi BNP.
Love Music Hate Racism kicked off with a 3,000-strong march from Manchester Town Hall to the carnival site. The underground garage stars Heartless Crew were at the front of the demonstration, with MCs Bushkin and Mighty Moe leading vibrant chants against the BNP. The march was a sea of red and yellow, with protesters carrying "lollipop" placards bearing the Anti Nazi League's logo. |

Fellowship March/April 2001
In the fall of 1998, a young man with short-cropped hair walked into a record store in Chicago. After nervously browsing through the store, he selected a CD and brought it to the counter. While being rung up, he tried to hand the clerk white supremacist literature. This being a small, independent record store, the clerk had been approached before by racist skinheads trying to distribute literature. She refused his pamphlet, gave him his change, and thought little of the encounter until the July 4th weekend of that summer.
That weekend, pictures of the same young man flashed across CNN and other news outlets. His hair had grown out and the "Sabbath Breaker" tattoo emblazoned on his chest was covered up. The young skinhead who had tried to pass her literature was now dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, after going on a two-state shooting spree that had left two dead and eleven wounded. The young man, Benjamin Smith, had shot himself rather than be apprehended by the police. |

A Cymophane, pronounced "kymo-phane", is a red-brown stone shaped like an eye. It is also the ancient Greek word for "the coming wave". If American nazi leader William Pierce has his way, Cymophane will become the next transatlantic wave of white power music.
As part of his ongoing efforts to recruit young people and generate revenue, William Pierce - leader of the National Alliance, America's fastest growing and most dangerous nazi outfit - has taken control of a number of white power record labels in the past year. The most recent addition to his growing musical empire is Cymophane, LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) - the U.S. arm of a music label specialising in "national socialist black metal" (NSBM). Through the purchase of Cymophane, Pierce is also seeking to make inroads into the white power music scene in Scandinavia. |
